Occasionally we get some jerks in airboats, on PWC's
(jetskis), or in boats that think they own the river. They are rude and can
be dangerous. If you encounter such a jerk, try to get their FL numbers, the
numbers on the side of the boat then contact the FWC at:
1-888-404-FWCC (3922) or go online to
http://myfwc.com/law/alert/ and
click on the report online link. You can report water safety violations
after the fact. This is the Wildlife Alert Reward Program but includes water
safety violations. The law does not say human-powered boats have the
right-a-way. It reads: The vessel with the least maneuverability should be
given "lee" (right-a-way). On the river, that usually means canoes and
kayaks but not always. Also if you see some jerk in a canoe or kayak
shooting at anything that moves esp. wading birds, get their canoe number
and call us. We just helped FWC catch some dumba**** that shot a Blue Heron.
What were they thinking?
